Hello! My name is Kerry and I was born and bred in Ilkeston, Derbyshire. I have always lived in this large, ex-mining town. It sits in equal distance between Derby and Nottingham in the East Midlands and I like living here very much.
Children's Picture Book Illustration is my absolute passion in life. From the moment I could hold a crayon, I wanted to communicate through pictures. I still want to do this and I am pretty certain I will never stop wanting to do this. I am very inspired by the world around me. Themes within my work center around family, friendship, imagination, connection, joy and creativity...all sprinkled with a bit of magic.
I am working to improve my craft through my own stories; The Greatest Cake (2019), The Peg People (2020), Bonnie's Ball (2021), Wooglefog (2022) and Box of Treasures (2024). Through these books I am learning the importance of how to tell a story for children, balancing text, illustration and design. Each project has been self funded, and each time I have seen an improvement in my storytelling techniques.
Alongside my books I offer commissions and I also have an online shop (see my Etsy page) of greetings cards, calendars and other stationery goods. I love to work in watercolour, pencil crayon and pen, using a little digital work to enhance the final images.
Favourite Artists: Raymond Briggs, Judith Kerr, Shirley Hughes, Rebecca Cobb, Fiona Lumbers, Emily Sutton, Emily Gravett, Beatrix Potter, Quentin Blake.
